The infinite intersections of self- Explanation and Analysis – Kennedy Liu

This document is the analysis and explanation of my 3D virtual Sculpture – “The infinite intersections of self”. The self-portrait sculpture is a large collection of rectangular poles of various sizes and colors; they are then suspended in a rectilinear net, creating an abstract image. Because of the 3D nature of this sculpture, at slightly different angles, the viewer can make out different faces, and the sculpture gets less abstract the further the view is from it. The piece is about my interpretation of self-identity, as it has the duality of both Atomistic and segmented. The more zoom out the self-identity is, the easier it is to categorize things into groups, ethnicities. Etc. However, the more zoomed-in one looks at himself/herself, the realization is that there are almost infinite lines in which their separate identities/experiences intersect, and all of them zoomed out produces a unique individual. This is what my piece is trying to reflect.
